A message David Giles wrote to John Etling: Summer Camp
DG> Sounds like a red letter camp, John.
Oh, believe me it was!
DG> From my perspective, having taken over a Troop 2 yrs ago that was
DG> in disarray--your Troop is.
Agree.
DG> The solution I recommend is to hold a parent's meeting and explain
DG> that is someone does not step forward as a Scoutmaster, the Troop
DG> folds.
DG> This sounds drastic, but either the boys whom are there "get the
DG> programme", or they don't. It is better to have the boys in
DG> another Troop to get the programme they are there for, rather then
DG> carry on for the sake of the charter, etc.
DG> It sounds harsh, I know, but it is the best course, in my opinion.
DG> Good luck, and Good Scouting.
This exact message was proposed by me to the troop committee and I was
basically overlooked. To be perfectly honest... I feel i asm the only true
Scout in this troop. There are other adults that have been scouts but they
are
of the adage that "I really do not have the time to do the program
orrectly."
My argument to them is simply this.... I have no tie to this troop as my boy
is only a 1st yr. Webelo and I do it because I love the program. I believe
the
paper Scoutmaster may actually come online now on a more permanent basis and
therefore we may revive but I do not look forward to it to be honest. There
were 3 boys at troop meeting this week... out of a possible 25 on record.
I have been adamant that we have no program so how do we expect to keep the
boys? We'll see what happens by the end of the year if it makes it. I
predict the troop to fold prior to Christmas (Dec.) if the committee doesn't
wake up REAL fast and listen to EXPERIENCED scouters!
So in parting Dave, your comments above are 100% on target and you are
absolutely correct. I am going to print your response so that I can use it
t
our next parent's meeting or committee meeting (which ever comes first) to
shove in the faces of the committee idiots and prove that I am not the only
person that believes it!..... that is if you don't mind!
PS: I never received a packet of stuff you stated that you were going to
send me?? Forget or get lost? 8-)
Regards;
John A. Etling
