RM> Ha.. It's not even cold here until it gets down below -20c.. RM> Round about where F and C meet (-40c) is where we start to wonder RM> if maybe we shouldn't play inside today... B) GP>I spent a winter in northern Ontario when I was 17 (hitchhiked my way >there and sort of 'landed' for a while) so I saw(felt) -40 for the >first(&, I hope, last!) time -- but it still didn't feel as cold as -10 >does here on the WE(s)T Coast! :P GP>(I've heard from immigrants from the (b)EAST that once they've done one >winter here(Vancouver area) they can't handle the cold back home any >more, so they just gave up and moved here! I've found through some rather dramatic changes that I go through most years that you get used to "it", whatever "it" is.. Every fall I have to shut down running water around Nov 5th but I stay there until just before Christmas.. Give it about 10 days and you don't even notice anymore. I used to Love the heat, and it still doesn't bother me, but if someone had told me years ago I'd be able to sleep in a room that was 60f, let along 45f, I would have told them they were nutz.. B) For 14 years I was out at my place year round.. Chopping holes in the ice for water and snowshoeing 2 miles to see if there was any mail or to get to my truck if I had to drive anywhere.. Now I spend 3~ months in a 'real' house over the winter.. About this time next week you'll probably be able to find me out at my place, up to my waist in the water, pushing ice floes out of the way to get the water lines in. (And hip waders are for wimps...)
