Kerning, yes, but I still remember that old typewriter that DID do that
(kerning/proportional spacing).
When making a mistake, and wanting to use a white out type of strip to type
over, you and to backspace 5 times for a capitol M or W, and only 2 for an
l or i. It became a learning experience to know how to correct things as
you went.
I don't recall a small "th" though.
