Thanx for responding. Our current SM, trained through Wood Badge is
departing and the "dictator" adult will assume the role of SM as of 6/09. I
got my first impression of him as a SM when I served as SPL and Troop Guide.
Then he was in charge of Program, so he was our direct link between the
Patrol Leader Council and the SM. As of my last posting, the new SM (
Dictator) has scheduled a "Spaghetti Breakfast"...which seems strange to me
if not anyone else. Unfortunately, he only gave the PLC a three-day warning
of his idea. As a result it was very poorly attended, obviously by
customers, and also by Scouts.
This is what the problem is. As I said before, he seems to be
running the troop like a cub pack, with the Cubmaster planning everything. I
have asked the departing SM to speak to him, and this may just be a case of a
new SM learning the ropes. I hope so. Even though I shouldn't, I am already
disliking him, maybe it is a youth's resistance to change but several
mistkaes he made really affected me. He brought his Tenderfoot son to an OA
Ordeal I ran, fully expecting that his son could watch the Ordeal ceremony,
and angry when I kindly asked his son to remain in the kitchen. He shot a
proposal to make the newly purchased red beret's a required part of the
uniform right over the current PLC's heads, and now he is beginning the feel
the repercussions of this...the boys don't want to wear hats. I believe
strongly in the boy-run leadership method, because even though a youth may
screw up a few times, he will benefit much more than an accomplished adult.
If you bothered to read this whole message, thanx again...

                                                Chris
