| subject: | Re: Latest SDL for US Courier :( |
IS> Are you terribly surprised that USR, hearing people openly boasting about IS> cracking their software, might have taken some preventative measures to Cracking??.. I hardly think comparing a US and Aussie SDL and finding only 2 Bytes Different CRACKING!!.. IS> protect their work (and quite possibly, their Austel approval status)? It does not affect the Austel Approval, as that seems to be HARD CODED In ROM or the SDL's may be smart programs where they read the Country Code (Also, that does not change in loading a US SDL) and do what they must. IS> What's really wrong with the version adapted for Australian conditions? I have Seen The Version 'Adaptod for Australian Conditions' and the US Version compared, and a Whole 2 bytes are Different (and that seems to be for the LOADING Software to know what Country to load in onto, not the Code for the Modem!..) IS> the connects no good? Everyone's been saying how good they are .. but I'm Yes, The connects are good, But a NEW SDL almost alyways means even BETTER! IS> about to purchase a modem that requires illegal hacking to work properly We just want the Latest SDL, and if all USR do is change 2 Bytes (well, that is how it looks like from previous Versions) Who is not going to change the 2 bytes and load it onto THEIR COURIER?.. Anyway, If we go by USR's BBS we should be all on, 01/95 code, is it?.. Thats NO V.34+ :( Cya!
