That is a shame.  John's viewpoint will be missed.  I hope he does not
maintain his current intentions.

It is natural, when something like this happens, to ask oneself,
"Was it something that I said?".  One thing that I have noticed
in re-reading my own recent posts is that I have responded to John's
arguments, not by talking to him, but by talking about him.  This
was rude and unfair on my part.  And John has not been the only
"victim" of my use of this tactic.  I shall try to reform.  And,
to the extent that this may have contributed to John's decision,
I offer my apologies to everyone on sbe who will be hurt by his
absense.  And that is pretty much everybody.
