subject: Turning on/off Call Waiti

ML> How do you turn off/on call waiting with the modem?

Its a problem with the abortion of a way Telstra has chosen to do it.

Basically you just send the stuff you normally punch in on
the front of the phone, but as a short string to the modem.

Its pretty easy to just have a couple of dialling
directorys entrys with any normal comms prog and have say

    Call waiting disable #43#,;H
    Call waiting enable *43#,;H

The ,;H at the end just hangs the line up after the stuff you punch.

BUT the problem with that is that you have to remember to
turn it on and off, and for most people thats a major problem.

If you have your comms prog permanently open in a multitasker
window, you have a real problem for which there is no obvious
solution. If you just run your comms prog, use it, and then
shut it down, you can do various things like load it from a
batch file and have a startup script just disable call waiting.

Or do the call waiting disable and enable in the batch file itself.
That means its off while ever the comms prog is loaded tho.

The proper way to do it is with a dial prefix which disables the
call waiting for just a single call. Thats supposed to be coming
but they have been saying that for years now and its anyones guess
when it will be widely available with the enhanced easycall.
