| subject: | Re: ATM Fusing quartz and/or silica? Yet Another Cheap Glass Post |
From: "Bob May" To: "atmlist" Reply-To: "Bob May" Basically quartz is pure SiO2 or silicon Dioxide. It is the major component of most glassses and, as such, it acts just like the other "glasses" of which we are familiar with. The temp for softening is higher because it is a purer material and this generally causes a higher melting point than the mix of materials of the other glasses. Treat is just like another glass, noting that it has an annealing temp like all of the other glasses and have fun!
