Binkley does work the same way, we have been using it for
a couple of years now. We just keep two configuration
files. The bink.cfg file for internet uses the virtual
com port, Modem Ignore Dial Tone,  and uses the
following type of statement to change the phone number:
DIAL 1-713-980-9671 204*89*247*1
; comment: Bob Juge, 1:106/2000
A simple point setup works fine for
vmodem use.
