No particular reason, other than that GM's English division is called
Vauxhall, and their German division is called Opel.

Probably has roots in pre-wwII history.  I imagine that Vauxhall and Fritz
Opel were separate companies first, and were absorbed by General Motors in
the 1920s or 1930s.
