This is a bit of a WAG, but I recently ran into a problem shutting
down NS/2 when the swap file had grown from it's base 32 meg to over 80
meg. I repeated the process with MEMSIZE running and watched the swap
file size bounce all over the place for several (10-15) minutes before
it settled down. In the meantime system response to the mouse/keyboard
was like yours: slow to not there. Once the swap file had shrunk to
it's base size all was well again. You might watch you swap file
activity and size while you try your sequence and see if that might be
the problem. Answer here was to bump the swap file initial size until
it exceeded the max growth.
BTW, peer network response suffered very little during this exercise!
