I don't disregard Piaget, I just regard his views as general statements that
are not founded on research - just his observations of his own children. Yes,
I know that other researchers have based their explorations on his
observations.
What I do believe is that the next 20 years, research and experience will
prove that what Piaget observed and what is possible cognitively (sp?) are
wider apart than now presumed. Already, research is showing that brain
development for language, math, etc. occurs much earlier than presumed, (yes,
I will look for the reference).
CB>Yes, I know he is referenced in most educational textbooks-but that
CB>doesn't mean I have to agree with him.
DT> Then you sit with the minority. Are you an early
DT> childhood educator.
DT> If not then your statements are understandable.
No, I am not "certified" in early childhood, I have had early childhood
courses. I have taught 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th. I carpooled for years
with primary teachers (10 years) and respect their opinions and their
experience. I don't think that I would really be in the minority other than
with college profs (who generally have little practical experience in the
classroom and very little recent experience especially).
Of course, then there you are.
