In Maksutov's original paper, he shows some designs with sub diameter
correctors placed just in front of a Newtonian diagonal (ie, between the
primary and the diagonal). Why hasn't this variant of the Maksutov been
more popular?
It's certainly less glass to work. Is wedge much harder to control on a
small lens vs a large corrector? or is measuring the ROC of the two
surfaces accurately much harder for something this small?

While thinking about this, why can't you make a Mak-cass the same way, with
the corrector in front of the secondary? It would involve two light passes
through the corrector, but again, it's less glass to work. Is the Magnin
secondary the same concept taken to one of the limits? (secondary and
corrector on the same piece of glass).
