-=> Quoting Poe Lim to Robert Gorey <=- RG> highest transmission level of -8.4dBm and was report as being RG> 10.6dB too high. RG> The recommended Telstra transmission level for Faxes is -19dBm as RG> the optimum and lowest level. For analog telephone exchanges a RG> level of between -19 to -16dBm is said to be satisfactory. Lower RG> levels are said to help overcome some echo problems. PL> That's the difference between faxes and data modems; for a modem, you PL> need it as close to -10dB as possible to get through, although the PL> -8.4dB is a tad high, and I've yet to see that. Usually it reports the PL> receive levels, which can be nowhere near -8.4dB. PL> Cheers, Hello Poe I don't get -8.4dB on modem connections. In fact I have never recieved anything higher than -10dB on data connections. It is only with fax that I get as high as -8.4dB and then only using the US code. I have a friend that did the same thing with his Maestro 144 fax modem and he was right on the Telstra recommended levels. I don't know whether there is any difference between 28.8k and 14.4k modems as far as send/receive levels are concerned.
