        Can't you scan after they're downloaded? Very few viruses are
transported this way. The majority of virus infections "in the wild" are boot
sector and MBR infectors, and not file infectors. Your downloads are safe
while downloading them, but you should scan everything before you run/extract
it, and then afterwards as well, until you know that the program you're
running is safe to run. HTML and .GIF's can't infect you, and neither can a
.ZIP file.
