| subject: | Re: ATM Box for shipping mirror |
From: "Bob May" To: "atmlist" Reply-To: "Bob May" There seems to be two different crowds in this regard, I belong to the "Don't Touch the Face of the Mirror" crowd. I do a wood box (2x3 or such lumber for the sides and 1/2" or thicker plywood for the top and bottom with bunches of screws holding the top and bottom on with glue on the bottom) and fill with styrofoam for the bottom and sides and a hard surfaced piece of foam for the top to keep the contact to the edges of the glass. The other groulp prefers to do a complete wrap of the glass and then restrain that by some means. Don't let it float in peanuts as this will allow the glass to float to an side and then the next big bump to that side will cause problems. FWIW, there are impact detectors available for verification of shipping forces and some of the simpler ones aren't all that expensive. Even just putting on the box that such equipment is in the box may end up making the shippers handle it better.
