JdBP> Yes, you can replace a traditional 1.4MB drive A: with an LS-120. But
JdBP> because of the way that drive letters are assigned by OS/2, "real"
JdBP> floppy drives take precedence over LS-120 drives. So if you have a
JdBP> 1.2MB 5.25" floppy drive in your machine, as I have, it will become
JdBP> drive A: and your LS-120 will become drive B:.
Since I also have (had) a B:=1.2mb drive, I was not able to get the two
(LS-120 ATAPI internal and 5.25" 1.2mb) drives to work together under
DOS. Since I still often boot to MS-DOS thru the Boot Manager, I wanted
to be able to have both of these two in DOS & OS/2. Since I was not able
to get to that status in DOS, trying both FDD controller cable
connections, and had to finally just leave them in the bios as A: & B:
not installed. Thus, the LS-120 comes up in DOS as drive J: (following
my last IDE drive) and I use a statement in my DOS AEBat file: ASSIGN
A=J What this does is allows me to refer to this drive as A: in DOS, for
everything except FORMAT, which doesn't recognize an ASSIGN'd drive. So
I can FORMAT J: but then all other references are recognized as A:.
But when I boot to Warp 4 FP6, it is immediately recognized as A:, and
is bootable. In fact, I have a 120 FD with everything I need to boot to
an A: prompt, with gobs of room for any other 'tools' one might need, to
handle whatever emergency/recovery from the A: prompt, that one might
conjure. }^:
I would like to hear about how you were able to retain the 1.2mb drive,
starting with the ribbon connections from the FDD controller, the
statements in the first page of the ROM BIOS config (Drive A: & B:), and
any parameters associated with the devices in CONFIG.SYS.
Thanks for any reply, and Good Modeming! /\oo/\
