I believe you are right - the group will probably fold. Since this
group is the ONLY one I can ever get to, due to physical limitations
such as legal (not total) blindness and severe athritis in my lower
back, I am very concerned. MOST people around here, in my experience,
don't give rides to meetings - unlike other areas I've lived in. And
this group is a noon meeting, downtown, in a safe neighborhood and
where our local bus goes. That is the main reason I go there. I have
never liked the meeting because of the personalities there, but for my
sobriety's sake I keep trying to put principles above personalities and
do the best I can.
And I have seen meetings of another program here in the city ignore the
traditions and eventually fold. I believe this is what is going to
happen here - it almost always done. Pure and simple, my concern is
for me as that is ALL that is my business. I am concerned about having
a place to go for my own recovery. But if others don't care, I guess
there is nothing I can do.
Someone once told me that AA and other 12 step programs spread when
people had "a resentment and a coffee pot" and started a new group. If
push comes to shove, that might be what ends up happening.
