Okay, you asked - and everybody else, especially Meg, read this!

ARIZONA DESERT RIDERS AND EL ZARIBAH MOUNTED PATROL ANNOUNCE THE THIRD ANNUAL
ROUNDUP!
(clipped from this month's Bridle & Bit)
The Arizona Desert Riders and the El Zaribah Mounted Patrol are in the
planning stages of our 3rd Annual Fall Round-Up. The dates for this exciting
event are November 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 1996 and will be held at the E-Z Ranch
in Cordes Junction. This year's cattle drive will, of course, consist of
driving the cattle to the ranch from the range to have vaccinations,
pregnancy tests, doctoring, etc. Also included will be a trail ride
(destination to be announced at a later date), a gymkhana, and a whole heck
of a lot of fun with some of the best doggone people you have ever ridden
with. Fishing, camping, ride activities, turkey shoot (no turkey), and camp
entertainment are also part of our enjoyable weekend. Great food will be
served by "Cowboy Campfires" (Morris Cooper.) The fall round-up is our most
unforgettable event, due to the fact that there are showers (with hot water)
and best of all - flushing toilets. (For those of you who have been on our
rides, you know that this is a real treat.)
For the price of $100 each, $50.00 for kids 12 and under, you too can be
part of this fantastic weekend. It isn't too early to sign up. Contact Dee
Dee (602-566-8678), Delvin (602-237-4053) or Karen (602-219-7930) for more
information and registration forms. The Arizona Desert Riders is a
non-profit organization who donates to various charities.

Note! El Zaribah Mounted Patrol consists of Shriners, the same
Shriners who operate the children's hospitals. I knew many of the mounted
patrol Shriners when I was growing up, but since they were retired then it is
doubtful they'll be coming...they were some mighty good people. I called one
but after I got on the phone with him I realized he is in his eighties and
probably won't make this ride, although when I was a kid he would talk about
the annual cattle drive for the outfit in Cordes Junction.
Cordes Junction is about 70 miles north of Phoenix, and those of you
from a climate that is COLD in November will probably move here once you see
what it's like in November. I will probably get a colder weather sleeping
bag than I have if I can't talk my mom into letting us take her motor home!
;) She lives in Humboldt, about 20 miles north of Cordes Junction. If you
have a map, Cordes Junction might not be labelled but it is where the
Interstate (I forget if it's I-10 or I-17, they run into each other and we
just call it the Black Canyon Freeway) splits off and one way goes to
Flagstaff, the other is I-69 or State 69 and goes to Humboldt (pop. 200) and
Prescott.
Dean will likely ride Dub as he gets along with him - Dub respects him
and Dub knows his job when it comes to working cattle. Dub does get TOO
excited at team penning so I don't use him for that, but normal ettiquette
dictates that in handling cattle you don't run the fat off another man's
cattle. This'll probably be a slow-walk drive. As far as I know the cattle
are POLLED Hereford, or at least that's the most common breed around Cordes.
I'll probably end up on Casey - we got him when JD was 9, and they fit
better than they do now that JD is 15 and Casey is still 14 hands or so.
Sturdy, but still pony-like.
