My point exactly. One needs to understand scientific method
and be able to evaluate their reports to determine their validity
and reliability.

Yes to all three at different times. But, as I pointed out,
my representation is irrelevant because there is no way to
determine my credibility or competence in the context of this
forum -- just because I say I am something doesn't prove that
I am or that anyone should rely upon what I say any more than
they should rely upon information from anyone else who makes
no such claims. Information presented in this forum should
at most be a beginning to performing personal research at
the library regarding any treatment a person might be inclined
to try.

Agreed

I understand exactly what you are saying, and I do not dispute this.
But, there are things that people may say that are potentially
harmful. Replies to such representations are necessary not to
try to change the mind of the person who is set on believing and
convincing others to their belief, but to demonstrate to those
"listening" that the expressed belief is not necessarily accurate
or accepted. Silence would suggest that what the person says is
generally accepted.
To be more specific on this -- you can avoid the situation you
are concerned about by doing as has been done in every other
echo Jane has participated in: keep a tight leash on her.
