Actually, the info on garlic is pertinent to onions in general
since garlic belongs to the onion genus: Allium. The garlic most
people think of is called Allium sativa. The yellow and red onions
people use are cultivars of Allium cepa. Scallions are Allium
fistulosum. The genus also includes chives: Allium tuberosum.
They all share the characteristics of the garlic species to varying
degrees, and apparently in proportion to how strong they smell.
