If you drop the listing of the uploader (is it really needed for normal
bbs users anyway?) You will gain the extra screen space that can be used
for long file names. Put a limit of 32.3 for filenames and that should give
us a bit more flexability.

I haven't found any third party mbse utils etc (yet), so implementing this 
change
would not likely effect anyone else.
