Way back in 1991 I secured four cuttings with roots, from a Concord
grape vine (from our family homestead that was a mature grape arbor
when I was a kid in 1920's and probably enjoyed by my father when
he was a youngster 8-) that I planted in my backyard, in an area that
receives direct sun over 75% of the day; here in the same suburban
Boston area.
Three of the plantings have progressed quite well and hopefully may
become a full fledge arbor about 100 feet square about ten feet above
ground level before I expire.
Strangely all three vines produce considerable folliage growth each
season (inspite of the drought we have experienced this summer 8-(
but only on vine has produced any fruiting.
I know some fruit trees have male and female genders. Do common grape
vines also gender? Is it likely cuttingsfrom a fruit producing vine
would have diverse gender?
Ciao, Ack.
