I did a little calculation to see if I care about gas milage that much. My
car gets between 21 and 28 mpg. I'll assume I average 24 mpg. I average
about 10,000 miles per year. Gasoline is about $2.00 per gallon. The gas
cost per year is then

   (10000 / 24) * 2.00 = $833

If I got a car that averaged 5 mpg better, it would cost

   (10,000 / 29) * 2.00 = $690

so I would save $143 per year. Back when gas was closer to $1 per gallon,
the difference would have been only $70 per year. I'm willing to pay that
to get a car that is more fun to drive.
