this must be a bug in just the SupraSonic versions SupraFAXModem 288i
doesn't report the version number.

Simon you are probably right. ATI9 reports PnP capabilities and it may
only be seen with the latest -22 flash ROM. Is your modem PnP and have you
installed the -22 beta? The error COULD only be in the SupraSonic -22
flash ROM code.
