Hi Carolyn,
CD> Hi,
CD> I run a small embroidery business and I have been contacted by a
CD> company outside the USA about buying their embroidery thread. They have
CD> sent a sample and I am impressed with what I am seeing, plus the price
CD> seems real good. BUT I'm wondering if there is an import tax or fee on
CD> something like this? How would I find out about it?
I used to work for a Custon's Duty Aiudit firm.....
The bet thig for you to do, is contact a Custom's Broker (Importer ) in
your area. Failing that, get hold of your local Custom's office. You
will have tohave the details of the name, and any information on
registration of roduct (codes etc.). Also, in some cases, certan items
not made in you country, are allowed to be imported duty free. In other
cases, they are able to be brought in under certain import codes which
allow them to have reduced or null duties.
If you were to tell me the detaisl, what country you were going toimport
them from and the country whre yo are located, perhaps I could find out
something for you.
Failing all of that, ask the person who sent you the stuff in the first
place. For instance, I would ask that company to give me a list of other
people that import the stuff, then go and ask them how they find it.
Hope this helps....
Bob
