subject: Internal Modem Problems

Hi! Alan,

On 17 Mar 96 17:50:52, Alan Marks whispered to Any kind person!:

AM> I have recently bought from Swann Modems an Internal 28800 BPS modem,
AM> having been assured that only the brand name was different from the
AM> morer expensive kind! There were no installation instructions - after
AM> all, what else do you do but plug it in? I configured it as COM2, and
[ ...chomp... ]
AM> with this device, is there any software to provide lights on the
AM> screen? Some help would be appreciated.

I've had 3 internal modems over the last 5 or so years and love 'em. :)

What _was_ COM2 before you installed the new modem? :) You'll need to
disable whatever it was or reset it as COM4. It just sounds like the problems
you're having are related to a conflict between 2 (COM2) ports using the same
IRQ and 'base' address.

If you're after an 'average' comms program, with modem lights, I'd recommend
Microlink for Windows (sometimes known as Comit). It's worked nicely, on and
off, for me over the years - as good as Telix for DOS, I'd say.

Cheers,
Paul.
