subject: Hello

RA>Peculiar. I'd be glad to send some of our rain your way if I could,
  >especially since the roof has turned into a sieve and at least one
  >cloudburst a week here. It has been normally hot here and exceedingly
  >humid--the paper in the copier at work was so limp today, it wouldn't
  >even feed. We've had a lot of storms, some of them quite violent.
Guess what? It has been raining all day -- a nice, slow, gentle rain:
the type plants adore. And it's supposed to rain tomorrow too. And the
high temperture has only been around 70 f (about 21 c) today. It's been
wonderful! Maybe this parched brown look will change to green. Maybe
South Jersey wil look like a swamp again, instead of like the desert.
RA> SB> We don't have air conditioning in our house, so we're just sort of
  > SB> adapting, and sweating a lot.
RA>Ahha! Discovered! The true origin of the Indian Princess (tm) sweat
  >lodge!
Grin! Everyone knows Indians don't need air conditioning anyway. We
just naturally adapt easily to whatever the temperture is. It's part of
our natural awareness of, and wonderful ability to adapt to, all that
is natural.
That nuclear powered sweat lodge in the back yard, on the other hand ...
RA>Seriously, though, the ventilation in this apartment leaves a little to
  >be desired, so three years ago when it was so hot here, I took my
  >retroactive pay raise (and then some) and bought two small air
  >conditioners telling myself I was justified in doing so because I needed
  >to have it cool enough at night to sleep so I could go to work and
Sounds like a wonderful idea.
  >actually get some work done and not doze off. Retroactive pay raises:
  >my position is represented by a relatively new and inexperienced union.
  >They never seem to start negotiating a new contract until the old one
  >expires and it takes them about a year to get a new contract. The pay
  >raises are retroactive to the expiration of the old contract, so when the
  >contract is settled, we get the difference between the new pay rate and
  >the old for the time we were without a contract as a lump-sum payment. I
  >tend to take it and use it to buy something I normally wouldn't buy
  >otherwise, like the microwave I bought last summer.
Grin! It's almost like having Santa Claus drop by, eh? We have a
microwave now, too. We bought one maybe a year ago. It's been
wonderful!
