Steve, I don't think that the future of this group is off-topic. I've just
been introduced to the web by helping the local TV cable company test their
internet-via-cable system. So I've been poking around the web looking for
Delphi stuff. My reaction to what I found (before reading your note) was
that "the stuff out on the web is just too massive - you could make a career
out of just reading it. Aren't I lucky to belong to a right-sized echo."
So I'm not so sure that we want to push for massive growth in the web. This
reader likes the echo just the size it is.
The thing that the web can provide and that Fido can not and never will, is
access to masses of other people's source code. Reading other people's
code, stealing their good ideas, even sometimes spotting their mistakes, is
one powerful learning tool.
Oh, regarding that TV cable connection, Adobe can spit out 3.8 megs in 4.5
minutes. Nice. Sadly, www.borland.com runs like molasses.
