You do know that MultiMail has a built-in command for taking taglines? 
When you're reading a message that has a tagline, press T (for "take
tagline").  A small window will pop up allowing you to edit the
tagline if needed and then it will automatically save the tagline file.

You're making things a lot harder than they really are...
