| subject: | ATM Plop & Cellular Mirrors? |
From: "James Lerch" To: , "ATM List" Reply-To: "James Lerch" Greetings All, For my next project, I'm working on slumping and fusing an 18" Cellular mirror. The point of the project is just something new to explore (Kinda like building an Aluminizer!) Anyway, I was wondering if I could push PLOP into helping me figure out what might happen with the following cellular mirror. 18" in Diameter, 1/4" thick face plate 6 - 18" long, 1/4" thick, 4" tall spars So I setup plop to model an 18" diameter 1/4" thick mirror supported by the following 20 support rings, with 12 support points in each ring. Each support point was only allowed variable relative support. The result was a 1.9e-6mm RMS error and what appeared as a 'Common Sense' approved color contour plot. Any Chance this might come close to reality? If interested, here's a link to the PLOP file I created: http://lech.no-ip.com/atm/Cell_Mirror.zip (Really Small!)
