Not that I would wish a student... and I certainly can't offer you any 
of the sound judgement, logic and facts you wish to find. The entire 
population problem, and I agree with you 100% that it is problem #1, 
defies all logic.
As far as I can see, this problem has it's roots in the big three 
religions. To the Christian, the Jew, and the Muslim, the supposed right 
given by their God to bear children is, to my way of seeing, one of the 
most destructive dogmas on the face of the planet. Many of them will 
fight tooth and nail against the distribution of condoms in public 
schools and abortion, but very few of them will offer any physical 
assistance toward the physical care of an unwanted or un-needed child.
I apologize to those who subscribe to these religions but not to these 
dogmas, I don't wish to generalize so harshly. But, the way I see it, 
the problem will continue to exist until someone can convince these 
folks that their beliefs are a problem for the planet. Because, face it,
nothing is going to stop man from having sex.
But what is the answer? Do the negative population growth proponents 
offer any ideas? Is there an actual organization toward this end?

When it comes to stepping on the toes of Christianity, there aren't too 
many governmental officials and environmental groups that wont back 
down, or at least soften their stance to the point that it is useless.
But you are right, our brothers and sisters in the animal kingdom are 
indeed, many of them, marching double time toward extinction... and we 
must ponder, can humans be far behind?
But, as one who honors the Earth Mother and respects the wisdom of the 
Great Spirit, I must wonder, perhaps a time of cleansing, as many of our 
Native American brothers and sisters have for told for so long, is 
indeed coming. The scourge that it wishes to cleanse is us.
