I am also trying to peer net my Warp 4.0 machine to my Win95 machine.
Previously this was done via Lantastic OS/2 under Warp 3.0 on my old
machine. I transferred the 3COM 3C590 from the old machine to the new
one and installed the same drivers (nearly a year old I think). I
de-installed Lantastic from the Win95 machine and have Netbios
installed, but it cannot "see" the Warp Peer.
PK> - Configure the Network Adapter.
PK> All the above systems use NETBIOS as the basic transport, so under
PK> Warp you use MPTS to configure your Network Adapter, and ensure
PK> the transport protocol 'IBM OS/2 NETBIOS' is available on that
PK> adapter. You dont need to touch any of the optional settings, the
PK> defaults work fine.
I think I have this done correctly. Any tests?
PK> - Configure 'OS/2 Peer Services'.
PK> Again, the setup of this follows default settings, the only part
PK> to
PK> watch is that each machine should have a UNIQUE network Id, so
PK> ensure
PK> that the 'Peer Workstation Name' box contains a unique entry.
PK> It also pays to align the 'Domain Name' with the same domain name
PK> being used by NT or Warp Server (if either of these are present on
PK> your LAN).
Can user names and user machine id's be the same, ie, can the win95
machine be called MATT and have a userid MATT?
PK>And thats about all thats needed to get the machines capable of
PK>talking to each other. From here, you need to decide what Users and
PK>Resources are needed for your environment.
PK>
PK>Now its just a case of configuring -
PK> - Users and their access rights,
PK> This is setting up the login names and access rights that each
PK> user has on THIS machine.
PK> - The 'Shares'.
PK> These are the actual resources on the Warp machine you wish to
PK> offer to other workstations, and what access rights are needed to
PK> allow them to get access to those resources.
PK> - The 'Connections'.
PK> These are the resources that you wish to conect to on OTHER
PK> machines,
PK> IE the 'Shares' being offered on those machines.
PK>Under OS/2 Warp, 'UPM Services' (User Profile Management Services)
PK>handles the user information, and the 'Sharing and Connecting' folder
PK>handles the last 2 items.
I don't need any connections, and I think I have the users/groups and
access rights configured correctly. I found UPM Services, but do not
know if I found the correct "Sharing and Connecting" folder. Is that
under the Connections icon on the desktop? I did setup shares for the
appropriate disks and the printer.
PK>I hope this at least gets you started, in most cases the task is
PK>easier than you think, but occasionally there are some odd quirks
PK>that you can run into. If you need more detailed info, then point us
PK>at the area of the question and just ask.
Any additional tips would certainly help!
