When we recently visited the park we wondered what happened to that
attraction. It certainly was my favourite twenty years ago and looked forward
to it again this trip. Unfortunately not anymore I see by your post in this
echo.
You may have heard of this accident awhile ago in 1986.
When Vancouver, B.C., Canada hosted EXPO 86 there was a version of the
carousel (moving audience) attraction. A little child was injured (or killed
???) and the fight was on. I believe the parents sued. I also believe their
child was climbing a gaurd rail when the attraction was moving. A stationary
wall met the child on the guard rail and the child was seriously hurt. Like
where were mommy and daddy (the responsible guardians)?
Certainly the attraction had its design faults but were does the parents
responsibilty come into all of this. When I take my child (my son is 13) to
an attraction I listen to what the attendant has to say. I then quide my
child according to the attendants instructions (the child in all the
excitement may or may not fully comprehend these instructions). If something
then happens I have to question my actions first as I am the responsible
guardian to the child. Maybe I am one in a million but I was taught safety
first and the fun will follow.
Better stop here as I might start something I won't be able to stop.
Thanks for filling us in on some Disney history. It is always a treat to find
out information on what happens behind the curtains.
