I remember some discussion about this in the past, but not the 
answer. Short term memory is always the first to go.
   I want to insert the date in a letter, but not as a field.  That is, 
I do NOT want it to change every time I open the document.
   What is the easiest way to do this repeatedly? If I try to customize 
the toolbar by taking the calendar button from the "Insert" group, it 
will only insert the date as a field. Is there an alternative to going 
each time to the menu bar, choosing Insert --> Date and Time, then 
manually selecting the format I like and making sure the check box (to 
add it as a field) is unchecked?
