Hi Tim,
I can offer some info about the 10Base2 networking:
-> Greetings:
->
-> I have questions about setting up a small home office LAN under Win95
->
-> Here are the facts of my case:
->
-> Two nodes - both Win95, both with ISA 10mbs Katron NE2000+ Compatible
-> combo cards. 10BASE-2 cabling (that _is_ the 50ohm coax, right?).
-> Both "tees" and both terminators will be installed.
Yes, you will need to terminate each end of the coaxial cable with a
50ohm cap. This means a T at each end and a resistor at each end. I
have a Netware pair of NetWare LANS which combine 10Base2 and 10BaseT.
->
->
-> Right now, reliable & speedy file & print sharing is my golden ring.
->
Win95 will work OK for that.
-> Questions:
->
-> 1> Do I need to use BNC "tees" and terms, or since it's a
-> two-node network can I simply hook the cards straight to oppisite
-> ends of the cable?
See above.
->
-> 2> What protocol should I use in Control Panel > Networking?
-> I've already got TCP/IP installed to DUN. Does that have any effect
-> on my protocol decision?
->
IPX is a more efficient protocol for local area networking. TCP/IP is a
better option for wide area networking. If your network usage will not
be exceptionally heavy, there is nothing wrong with using TCP/IP
though.
-> 3> When I begin looking to share modems, what will road do I
-> follow? How will that be affected by my choices now?
->
When you want to share modems, take a look at pcANYWHERE for Win95. It
is a super remote control program: A tad on the expensive side, but just
chock full of potential.
-> 4> Anyone with any knowledge of WinGate, speak up!
->
Sorry..no info available here :)
-> Regards (and thanks for your time),
->
-> Tim ==
->
Regards,
Tim Pendleton
