| subject: | Re: M34F init string. |
G'day Andrew! -=> In a message on 24 Feb 96 <=- -=> Andrew Tam said this to Stephen Lennie <=- AT> Anyway, my string I used to use was: AT &F L0 M4 &D2 &K3 \V1 #B1 #K0 AT> %U2 S0=0 S11=70 S22=120 &W SL> ^^^ SL> Hopefully you meant S33 and this is just a typo...(Y/n) The S22 SL> register controls something else and can't be written to without #V0 SL> first. AT> Well...yeah...you gave me that string...with tht typo in it...'cept I AT> forgot to write it down... Oops, sorry 'bout that. AT> And I just entered that in once, and used ATZ to start up my modem. SL> ...the way an init string *should* work...! AT> You would be surprised at the number of people's computers that have AT> the whole string written to the modem every time they run their comms AT> prog... No I wouldn't be surprised really. It's a shame people don't spend just a *little* more time familiarising themselves with their modems (and other appliances). Some people are not satisfied to just use the full init string each time their comms prog starts, but many include the "&W" command which saves the setup to NVRAM *every* time. This can cause REAL problems with modems like NetComm's AutoModem and Roadster series which do not have battery backed NVRAM and thus have a limit of about 10000 "&W" writes before they need to go back to NetComm to be re-chipped.
