I remember Tornado, and was thinking back to a BBS called Crossroads
in Mountain View that had a natural language interface, back in 1987 -
you could type "read new messages", for example.

Another weird one was Pyroto Mountain, which wrapped the BBS in an
adventure game with points, levels, manna to allow you to do more, and
so on. It's available as a web app, but is pretty expensive.
