BL> Martian Flat Cats in Rolling Stones.

-RS>I've heard the Flat Cats were the partial inspiration for tribbles.

BL> David Gerrold freely acknowledges that he was probably inspired by
BL> flatcats, but he didn't conciously think of them at the time. Heinlein
BL> says that the flatcats were inspired by a short story "Pigs is Pigs"
BL> about a pair of Guinea Pigs that breed out of control. "Pigs is Pigs"
BL> was also made into a cartoon in the fifties or so.
Yup, the cartoon was made by Disney.
I read the reference to Gerrold's inspiration in his book called "The
Trouble With Tribbles."
You're talking to a charter trekker, having started watching in 1966,
when I was 6 years old and the monsters scared the SNOT out of me.
Heck, I named my first cat, "Tribble."
Speaking of cats and Trek, why is it the Next Generation writers kept
screwing up Data's cat "Spot's" sex?
In the first several years he was male, but then he(she?) had a litter
of kittens!
Not only that, Spot changed appearance!
That scene in the first NG movie where Data finds Spot in the wreckage of
the Enterprise had me crying, too!
How about the rest of you? Any explanation for Spot's change of sex and
appearance, other than just the obvious?
Otherwise, how many here remember the other cat in Trek, namely the
crew member from the animated series, "M'Ress?"
And who can remember who did her purring voice?
