subject: FastEcho Registration

CPA>> Yeah, Decompile it and remove the registeration
CPA>> crap out of it. I'm sure the author is out of the
CPA>> BBS scene. and besides, the idiot got my money
 CPA>> too and split.

ml>> that's a nice attitude... no doubt you win many
ml>> friends with it... do you have a problem with
ml>> someone having a real life outside the computer
 ml>> and fidonet?

CPA> No, But what I do have a problem with is people
CPA> offering a product. and then when he decides, oh,
CPA> this ain't for me anymore, he splits and takes
CPA> everyone's money and leaves the scene, leaving
 CPA> everyone swinging...

FastEcho is provided 'as is', without warranty of any kind, neither
expressed nor implied. The author only guarantees that FastEcho and the
included tools occupy diskspace.

i see nothing in there that says that you'll get anything else than what
you registered and the key that goes with it... in fact, there's nothing in
the docs that says that anyone will get anything further and above what
they already have... what's the problem with that?

CPA> and besides, who asked you anyhow?

this is an open echo for one thing ;)

 CPA>> bastards.

ml>> did you not get what you paid for? seems to me that you
ml>> did... everyone did... no one was promised any future
 ml>> upgrades or development, TTBOMK...

CPA> It doesn't matter, If you gonna offer a product, stand
CPA> behind it. Don't offer it and then make your money and
CPA> spilt the scene. that's bad business,

sorry, i don't think so... not in the case of shareware software that you
purchase a registeration key for... no one guarantees that you'll get
anything over and above what you already got... not IBM, microsoft, intel,
amd, cisco, or any of the other multitude of companies out there... most
don't even guarantee that you'll get any bug fixes!

CPA> Fastecho's author did it, Gecho's author did it, FrontDoor's
CPA> original author did it, as did Allfix's author, when he
CPA> found out he couldn't nickle and dime everyone to death for
CPA> upgrades. this is why hackers are so active. because of
 CPA> putz's like that.

frontdoor has only had one main author as did the others... each business
is free to determine their fees and regulations... you call it nickel and
dimeing... they call it putting food on their table and paying their rent
so thay can give you what you believe you desire... without food and rent,
they can't do anything at all to provide you the software that you have...

i'm a shareware author, myself, and i don't guarantee or promise anything
other than it will take up space on your drive... if it works for you,
that's great... if not, you own all parts and pieces ;) other than that,
/if/ i can get another version or program written and released, that's a
good thing... if, at some time, i see that i can't do it any more, then i'm
under no obligation to remain or support it... as much as i'd hate it, i'd
not have much choice in the matter...

maybe instead of whining and crying like you do above, you should try it
yourself and see what its like... it takes a lot more than a few hours a
night after a long days work to get this stuff done... and when you throw a
family in with children and a spouse who also wants their time with you,
well, you count the hours available and tell us what you come up with ;)

methinks you need to stop for a moment and look at the other side of the
fence and see what its really like...

sorry if you don't like the truth as i've told it in this message but it is
the truth... yes, i hate that those guys had to let their software and
support go... i am/was a beta tester for frontdoor, fastecho and several
other packages... it was a letdown, yes... but it was understandable...
heck, joho's now got a child (at least one child) that's a couple of years
old... and a wife and a full time business... this stuff was peanuts
compared with what's out there in real life... nickle and dimeing... yeah,
right :(
