The USB floppy worked fine, and ECS 1.2 installed through the first phase. 
However, when ECS booted from the 
hard drive, I got the old "unable to operate hard drive message".

I got the newer DANI and the ECS key off the floppy through the install
with no problem.  I don't know if I had to do so 
or not, but I did do the extended boot from the install and specified that
I had a USB floppy before I started the actual 
install.

The HP might boot at some point, but I haven't had time to play with it. 
My resume and cover letters are on the 
laptop, under WinXP and Word.  Since I need to job hunt, I haven't
attempted to mess with ECS on the off chance that 
I could screw up something under Win XP..
