| subject: | Re: ATM motorized scope? |
From: "Bob May" To: "atmlist" Reply-To: "Bob May" There indeed have been many ways of doing the job. I enjoy pointing out to you Mel Bartel's website for a complete system (including all of the software and other such things) to motorizing a Dob style scope. I don't know if anybody has made up PCBs and is selling them for the scope but I have seen the design working at Stellafane one year. After getting the bugs out of the hardware (it was first light for the scope and electronics there) the scope performed well. As a hardware electonics guy at the cutting edge of the technology, I considered the mechanics of the hardware to be a bit of old tech but it all worked very nicely and the electronics that Mel did is first rate, especially for the average amateur at electronics. The papers that I also saw were a first rate description of what the electronics was doing and was easily followed.
