Boy, does that sound familiar.  Lines not too good, I presume?

Unfortunately, V.FC is nowhere near as robust as V.34, especially on dodgy
lines, so I'd suggest you force a slightly lower link rate, say 26400 or
even 24000, and see if that improves your connects at all.

Can't comment on the NetComm init$, but I'm sure somebody else will jump in
and let you know if it doesn't look quite right.
