| subject: | Networking with NT and Win 98 |
Hello Everyone; 23 Dec 02 21:25, I wrote to you: MG> quite well, and can map the drives to itself, I have trouble trying to MG> get a logon from the Win 98 machines to the NT machine. It seems the MG> NT machine asks for a password for the IPC$ share, but I see no way to MG> configure the password for this share, nor to set up an account on the MG> NT machine that will allow NT to recognize connections from the Win 98 MG> machines and give them access to this share. I find the NT user MG> manager confusing and not very helpful. Never mind... I figured it out. (isn't that always the way, you figure it out right after you get frustrated enough to ask for help?) I needed to set up an "Administrator" account on the Win 98 machines, and log in as that, instead of as "Michael Grant". (I suppose if I added "Michael Grant" to the NT machine's "Administrators" user group, that would work, too...) For those who were wondering, I have no domain controller, since it's an NT Workstation. Peer-to-peer is the only way to network the computers, using workgroups instead of domains. I may later try using a Linux box as a PDC using Samba; it's supposed to work very well with NT as well as Win 9x machines. --- GoldED/386 3.0.1-dam3* Origin: MikE'S MaDHousE: WelComE To ThE AsYluM!
