The message from Mike Taylor rises higher:
MT> Thus quoth the Raven ...
MT> What label is it on? I'm curious whether it is some of the private
MT> pressings or if perhaps Sony released it?
CR> I guess the label is Bridge Records. There's an address for
CR> them at the bottom of the back cover under a paragraph explaining
CR> what the term "suffocating the bloom" means. The CD itself
CR> is painted black with absolutely no writing on it at all. Tne
CR> booklet inside the case feels very papery and folds out to
CR> six pages with all the lyrics, except "Here I Am" (?). There're
CR> addresses for Bridge Management and the Daedalus Newspaper.
CR> Is that the same as yours?
MT> This is kinda interesting, Clark. The back cover of mine has the song
MT> titles and a few paragraphs explaining the meaning. It starts with "I
MT> remember watching Johnny..." and ends with "...to the full potential
MT> that God intended." But no address appears anywhere on the back cover.
I have the same paragraph on back and right after "God intended" there's
the address for Bridge Records in the same gold font (outlined in
black). The back cover also has the names of the songs and their times.
All of this printing is over 9 pictures, not of equal size (one is of
three children sitting at a piano, another is of a Leonardo DiVinci
drawing (put there for the "One Voice" song, I assume)).
MT> The CD is silver, with "Suffocating the Bloom" in script writing, the
MT> "echolyn" name and the song titles and times. Do you have any sort of
MT> matrix number on the inner ring of the CD? (Not the clear plastic but
MT> the inner laser part.) Very fainly, mine has 118224-D3-2307-1 and
MT> Disctronics USA. These are very faint and took a fair amount of moving
MT> the disc around to get it all figured out.
My disc, as I said, is painted black and there's no writing on it. The
inner ring has the following: 301806 11/95 1DA1 IFPL433 (this
last string is in a smaller and different font and reflects the light
like the CD does, you know, all rainbowy). I'll venture a guess that
the 11/95 is the date of pressing. Weird, eh?
MT> What do you mean by papery? Flimsy? The booklet of mine is fairly
MT> stiff, almost like a manilla folder but not as thick.
Yep, that's what I mean. It doesn't feel like the commercial booklets
that the big labels give you. This is exactly like the Djam Karet
booklet paper.
MT> It does fold out
MT> (twice, which I think equals your six pages). It has all the lyrics (I
MT> think), inc. "Here I Am." The lyrics are printed in "handwriting."
MT> The two addresses are present, plus the usual thank yous and a brief
MT> blurb about the recording of the album.
Yep, mine's the same. I finally did find "Here I Am", but the title of
the song was left off. Also, the title to "21" was left off as well.
MT> Definitely some differences between our copies. I wonder if the band
MT> repressed more copies or if there were a variety in circulation to
MT> begin with? Anyone else with _Suffocating the Bloom_ want to chip in?
It sounds to me like the only difference is with the disc itself. I
wonder if they did any remastering? It sounds good to me, but the high
ends (cymbals) are sometimes too piercing. Other than that, the sound
is perfect. All the instruments are nice and clear.
