Hi, Sondra,
RA>I don't think we've had a whole lot of snow this winter, but it may seem
>that way because we've had a few warmer than normal days when a lot of it
>has melted. Last week it seemed like we had snow every day and it has
>definitely stayed around with the colder temperatures this week. Further
>north there has been a lot more snow.
SB>
SB> We haven't had a lot of snow here in south jersey either. As a matter
SB> of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we've had an *average* winter;
SB> although I'm not sure it has been average at any point so far this
SB> winter. We've been seesawing back and forth between record breaking
SB> highs and record breaking lows. Right now it's very warm: 51 f (10
SB> c).
That's warmer than we've been for a while. It was 44 f one day about a
week ago. On TV when they gave the January weather statistics, they gave
a snowfall total that's about 3 inches above normal compared to twice
normal this time last year. No wonder it hasn't seemed like that much
snow. Our weather, too, has been seesawing.
Good news, neither Punxatawny Phil nor Jimmy the Groundhog saw their
shadows.
RA>Yes, we were outside a lot more, especially in winter. No
RA>snowblowers
>back then, so we had to shovel. We didn't have that much processed food
>and fast food was unheard of.
SB>
SB> We *still* don't have a snow blower, and have to shovel.
I don't have one either. The landlord has one; I've seen it sitting on
the front porch. My neighbors in this neighborhood and I are lucky. In
the 14 years I've lived in this neighborhood, there has always been
somebody with a snowblower who has gone around and done all the sidewalks
on the block. One of them made his own snowblowers with lawnmower
engines and borrowed parts. They don't look or work like standard
snowblowers, but they do the job just as well and they're still running
after 30 years. I was outside today chopping ice. We had freezing rain
followed by snow this morning. The landlord shovelled, but didn't put
any sand out, so I got my ice chopper and went to work--I did need to get
out of the house. I park on the street and have to move my car every day
with the alternate side parking.
Take care,
Robin
