MC>I've never read a good book by Stephen King that actually scared me.
MC>Could someone give me a clue on which book of his you think is the best?
MC>I've read Cujo, and Tommyknockers. Neither of those books gave me much of
a
MC>thrill. Is his new continuing books any good? I am a person who really
 RM> hate

RM> King's best work is his short stories. Of these, I recommend
RM> "Strawberry Spring", "One For the Road", and "Children of the Corn"
RM> from *Night Shift*. From *Skeleton Crew* you might try "The Mist",
RM> "The Monkey", and "The Raft". None of his novels have scared me,
RM> though they can be very good; the one that's come closest is *'Salem's
 RM> Lot*.
RM> But only liking what genuinely scares you can make for big
RM> disappointment. Other than the above King stories, and H.P.
RM> Lovecraft's best work, *nothing* in print scares me. But that doesn't
RM> keep me from enjoying a well-done horror story.
You know, you're just like me. Never been scared by something in print. In
fact, the only time I get scared is when I'm watching a horror movie, and
all of a sudden, someone just jumps out of nowhere. The worst I was ever
scared was in one of the opening scenes of Aliens where the aliens jump out
and start to slaughter the marines. But, I think that the best King book
I've read is The Stand(there, now I'm back on topic).
