I am just catching up here as I have had a busy spring and taught summer 
school.
 
Currently I teach in a networked lab that is mostly DOS machines, I am 
working on a curriculum that teaches application skills using student 
projects. 
 
Last year we worked on calendars, greeting cards, posters, menus (meal type), 
poetry books, and the Project Newsday. I hope to expand this to include 
programming, test creation (students make up tests for skills learned), 
life-goals planning, and what ever else I can think of. Would be glad to 
brainstorm with you about possible projects, even cooperative projects that 
could be planned. (eighth grade students).
 
I am not sure if this fits with your age group or not.
