Yes, I've done it before.. Been meaning to do it again.. ;)

You don't need "configure --news", can't remember what that's for but I
don't think you'll need it.

I just entered a unique name for each area in option 4 of the message area
setup. I had to add mbnntp to /etc/services (and restart) and open port 119
and after that it was up and running.

~/html/programs/mbnntp.html has info about it.. :)
