It isn't "life in prison" and nowhere is it described as such. A
life priisoner released on parole is subject to immediate recall to prison
in the event of the Parole Board deciding he/she is a risk. Being caught
with a firearm will do very nicely.
For many prisoners, life means exactly that. Ian Brady will die in prison,
as did his acomplice Myra Hindley. Fred West, too.
A life sentence is a life sentence. Paroled lifers - even those who get
the standard 12 years (many get less or more - the range is from probation
to a real whole life sentence) are subject to constant review.
